Best Jodhpur Sightseeing Places
MEHRANGARH FORT
The Mehrangarh Fort rises impenetrably, perpendicularly, from a hill 125 meters above Jodhpur’s skyline. Packed with mythology and history, this ancient fort is among the most well-known in all of India. The second gate of Mehrangarh Fort still displays the scars from cannonball attacks by the Jaipur army. Strong and well-chiselled, the fort is renowned for its walls of Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal, and Sheesh Mahal, as well as its exquisitely carved panels, latticed windows, and elaborate decorations.
UMAID BHAWAN PALACE
Maharaja Umaid Singh constructed Umaid Bhawan Palace in 1929 as a response to the famine that had struck the state at that time. Because stones from the Chittar hill were used in its construction, it was also known as the Chittar Palace. Renowned British architect created the palace, which took 16 years to build. The palace’s architecture, which was constructed of marble and sandstone, is characterized as a fusion of Western Art Deco, Classical Revival, and Indo-Saracenic styles. It is acknowledged as one of the most magnificent buildings in the world and one of the biggest private residences.
JASWANT THADA
A popular tourist destination, this snow-white memorial was erected in honor of the leader Jaswant Singh near the close of the 1800s. Jodhpur’s ruler, Jaswant Singh, made wise investments in his state. He attempted to build railways, control dacoits, lower the rate of crime, and generally improve Marwar’s economy. Open to the public, Jaswant Thada is maintained and managed by the Mehrangarh Museum Trust (MMT). The Trust runs a museum in Jaswant Thada that features instructive didactics and portraits of Marwar kings. The information acts as a starting point for understanding Marwar’s history as it is shown in the portraits. Its grounds provide a tranquil setting for early morning concerts at music events like the
GHANTA GHAR
The clock tower, or Ghanta Ghar, is located in one of Jodhpur’s busiest districts. Maharaja Sardar Singh, after whom the nearby Sardar market is named, constructed the tower. Travelers love the Sadar Market for its spices, traditional clothing, and elaborate jewelry. In Jodhpur, the Clock Tower is a well-known landmark. The Tower marks the beginning and conclusion of the Blue City Heritage Walk.
MANDORE GARDEN
Jodhpur city sightseeing is situated north of Mandore, the former capital of Marwar. The historical significance of this place is noteworthy, as it houses the dewals or cenotaphs of Jodhpur’s previous rulers. These are constructed like Hindu temples, as opposed to the original umbrella-shaped cenotaphs that are distinctive of Rajasthani architecture. There is also a museum, a temple, and an art gallery within this enclosure. During the evening, a light and sound display in this garden introduced visitors to the rich cultural legacy of the former Marwari royal empire.
KAILANA LAKE
This little man-made lake is a great place to have a picnic and is located on Jaisalmer Road. It resembles a canvas with a lovely color splash. The lake’s splendor lingers in your memory long after you’ve visited. Boating and zip line facilities are also available for anyone who would like to venture out onto the lake.
